Kia ora! I'm a professional migrant! I arrived in Dunedin, New Zealand, about 10 months ago and am working at a university. I have lived in Japan and can speak Japanese. (I did my PhD in Japan.) I'd like to practice my English. My English is broken, and unfortunately, when I attempt to speak, I tend to make very long and technical sentences, as I've learned English primarily by reading (scientific/academic) books. I'm also open to Japanese language exchange as I'm losing my skills. (I'm afraid my Japanese is also broken). I like science, drawing and running. I'm also a self-taught artist who wants to write and illustrate a children's book one day. I'm currently training for the Dunedin marathon, and these days, I encourage myself to read more instead of wasting my time on social media so as not to ruin my already-too-short attention span any more. Hello, my name is Randi. I'm a Canadian living in Rotorua, New Zealand. I've always wanted to learn Japanese, as it's a beautiful language. It would also help me appreciate the art, media, and culture of Japan better; I really enjoy reading manga, watching anime, and learning about Japanese history. I have a basic understanding of hirigana, and know a few phrases, but otherwise I am a total beginner who is seeking someone to practice with. Hi there. Well, I am here to learn Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish and to also meet new people (from anywhere- I do not mind) by helping them learn English. I also need to restart practicing my french! I am infatuated with Japanese Culture- I do a Japanese martial art, Bonsai and origami. I will visit Japan again in 2024 and have a to do list a mile long- but would love to add new activities and experiences if you could suggest some! I also want to do a trip throughout Central and South America and experience the cultures, food and fun. I also love cooking (especially from things I have grown in my garden- I have a real green thumb)- so would love to share recipes (especially for smoked food, barbeque and outdoor cooking- but anything is okay- except I can't really bake cakes, haha). I love the great outdoors (camping, mountain biking and exploring) and live in an outdoor wonderland/paradise- so feel free to ask anything about New Zealand. Would be cool if you like the outdoors/nature/exploring too! While I work full time; I also am a semi-professional photographer- So have a real creative streak! Oh and if you like beer- i make my own craft beers!

Hi, I'm Jane and I'm keen on finding a pen pal who I can write to in French in exchange for receiving your letters in English. I was born in the UK, grew up in Uganda, met my Kiwi husband in Kenya and have now lived in New Zealand since 1990. I love it here. I learned French for 6 years in school and also stayed in France for 1 month. Recently, I became keen on re-learning my French. I found a good app called Duolingo, which I have used nearly every day for the last 6 months. My French level is B1, which is Intermediate. I know I make a lot of mistakes but my main aim is to make conversation (through writing) and make new friends. I have been an English teacher and an Instructional Designer, that is designing teaching material. I am now retired but still do some online work occasionally. Hi, l’m Ariel, I’m from Sichuan, China. My first language is Sichuanese which is a dialect from southwest of China. I do speak fluently in Mandarin of course.I’m looking for a study buddy as I have a very short attention span and I have had no motivation and it’s been so hard for me to focus. Hello! My name is Sophia and I am in my final year of study in high school. I live in the South Island of New Zealand.
